Danbury Railway Museum.
The Museum, located in the historic station and rail yard in downtown Danbury, Connecticut, offers railroad history, rail excursion trips, and a collection of original and restored rolling stock including ex-LIRR ALCO FA-1 #617.

Dave Keller's Long Island Rail Road Photos & Recollections
Dave Keller is a LIRR historian who has hundreds of LIRR photos for sale and also offers many interesting articles and accounts of the LIRR from his own perspective and experiences. The site is chock full of rosters, photos, and other interesting tidbits including a complete LIRR caboose roster showing where they were and where they are now!

Steve Lynch's Long Island Railroad Maps, Photos, Charts, etc
Steve Lynch is another LIRR historian. His site includes photos, rosters, very detailed maps of the past and present and photos of LIRR railroadiana including LIRR passes and advertisements.

Operation Lifesaver.
Operation Lifesaver is a national, non-profit education and awareness program dedicated to ending tragic collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights of way.

Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum.
Located in Willimantic Ct. just a short ferry ride from Long Island this museum is home to rolling stock, freight buildings including a six stall roundhouse re-constructed on it's original foundation and of course vintage locmotives including LIRR #400, General Electric Center-cab, 44 Tonner which was the only 44 Tonner the LIRR ever had.

Society formed from LIRR employees and retirees offers information about the oldest Class 1 railroad still in operation.

This is a non-railroad related website, but for those of you who are planning that family vacation railfanning the Long Island railroads, here's a great place to get info on "other" happenings in and around Long Island.

Here's a great website that has LIRR logos from the past and their stories as well as tons of interesting information on the LIRR past and present!

Long Island Live Steamers
They are located in Shirley, NY. They have an outdoor railroad layout for 3/4", 1" and 1 1/2" scale trains. The club offers rides on select days from the middle of May until the end of October. Check their site for the schedule.

More LIRR History
An historical perspective on the LIRR from the Dunton Family Website. The Dunton family was a significant family in Long Island's history.

Forgotten NY
The phrase gone but not forgotten is a common phrase stated by people who remember the past that is only in their memories. This site will show you what pieces of history are forgotten but not gone as it tours the NY metro area showing you the remnants of NY past that still exist today.

Rail-Marine Information Group.
Railroads in the NY metro area used the NY waterways as a means to move freight traffic for many years. Only the New York Cross Harbor RR still runs such an operation. The Rail-Marine Information Group is an organization of people from around the world with a common interest in the history of the transportation of railroad equipment across water. RMIG was organized to share knowledge and information gathered by its members.

Old New York City
OldNYC.com (Old New York City) is a web page that explores some of the many facets of New York City's transportation infrastructure. OldNYC.com takes the visitor on a tour of city's transportation past, by way of several virtual tours. This site examines the abandoned and little used railroad lines in New York City. The web site also examines the routes of planned but never constructed expressways that were to serve the New York City area

The Brooklyn Historic Railway Association
The BHRA is a museum located on the Brooklyn waterfront (Redhook) that featured operating traction and light rail! They were laying track and had hoped to reach downtown Brooklyn. The group is filled with knowledge and facts about historic Brooklyn including the Atlantic Avenue tunnel. The have recently been put on hiatus and had to close their doors to the public. Their website remains active however for further information on this group.

This website will give you history, information, conversations, photos, maps and almost anything else you can think of regarding the NY City subway and bus system

Central Operating Lines, Ltd. Model Railroad Club
A not for profit group of O-Gauge model railroaders located in Ronkonkoma, NY where the club owns the layout and the members own the trains. The group meets to run trains, work on the layout and also operate 6 swap meet shows throughout the year

American Railway Caboose Historical Educational Society Inc.
A consortium of members from across the nation that work to preserve and study the caboose. Many members of this society are experts on the caboose, and this organization is often an invaluable resource for those wishing to expand upon their knowledge of the caboose.

A very detailed and informative look at the parlor cars that once ran on the LIRR.

Caboose Art
This is a webiste dedicated to the art work of George Wybenga, a Long Island resident who has painted over 130 watercolor paintings of cabooses located across the United States. His work is available for purchase. He has included some of the Twin Forks cabooses in his works.
