We Get Around!
We have been on some great trips where we've had a mix of members, spouses and non-members join us all in the name of great fun, fantastic memories and of course wonderful photography opportunities!
Some of the destinations we've been to include the Wilmington and Western railroad in Wilmington, Delaware, the Catskill Mountain Railway and Delaware and Ulster railroad in upstate NY, the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland and Steamtown! And that's just a few of the many destinations our members have been to.
Our latest trips include...
April 2007 Coney Island Rodeo
The Twin Forks Chapter has been invited to visit the Coney Island shops during the annual MTA Coney Island Rodeo and Open House.
The Rodeo is an activity that puts employees in competition to compete for awards to see who is best in their respective craft each year.
The Rodeo, is also an opportunity for families and friends of employees to visit the shops and see the inner working of this huge complex.
MTA/NYCT employee Doug Diamond, who is a good friend of the Chapter, invites the Twin Forks Chapter members as his guest, and our escort, around the facility.
Each year the Chapter members look forward to going the Shops.
Being a member of the Twin Forks Chapter has its rewards, and a special visit the Coney Island Shops are just one of the rewards, you can get when you become a member.

August 2006 New Hope & Ivyland and NYS&W Technical & Historical Society
The latest trip the Chapter had was to the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad in New Hope Pennsylvania. There we watched GP30 2198 switch the station
and then we rode behind steam engine #40. After there we hit the road and headed over to the Belvidere & Delaware Railroad in Phillipsburg NJ.
At the Bel-Del we rode behind the NYSW 142 steam engine in vintage LIRR cars! On the way back to LI we made a stop in Lebanon, NJ to see some of the URHS equipment.

October 2005 Jim Thorpe Pennslvannia Trip
On a crisp clear autumn day in October of 2005, The Twin Forks Chapter - NRHS took off for Pennsylvania.
We arrived in picturesque Jim Thorp, PA to ride the very scenic Lehigh River Gorge passenger train. In addition, there was plenty to do and see when we arrived. An annual fall street fair was in full swing, and our members enjoyed strolling thru the vendors. There was plenty of different railroad locomotives and other rolling stock, that caught our eye, around the Jim Thorp railroad station for us to admire and photograph. As with all our trips (when available and safe to do so), we set up photo lines and get some pictures of the railroad action, this trip was no exception. We set up photo run-buys along the line, and were treated to some great photographic opportunities.
We also traveled to the No. 9 Coal mine in Lansford, Pa. Opened in 1855, No. 9 Coal Mine, is the world's oldest continuously operated anthracite coal mine! Closed in 1972, the mine was re-opened as a heritage tourism attraction in 2002. Today visitors ride safely by train into the mountainside, to see and experience first hand what it was like for our fathers and grandfathers to work underground over the past 200 years.
The tour was great, very interesting and informative. So was the railroading that day!
All in all it was another great Twin Forks Chapter trip. |

August 2003 New York & Atlantic Trip
The Twin Forks Chapter, had a very interesting tour of the New York & Atlantic Fresh Pond Yards and a walking tour of historic rail site in the waterfront areas of Brooklyn , NY.
We began by arriving at the NYA Fresh Pond yards, where we were met by NYA employee, Mr. Joel Torres. Who explained the yard operation, and the over operations of the NYA.
We were also given a tour where the LIRR interchanged with the NY Connecting Railroad, just above the Fresh Pond yards, when the New Haven used to interchange with the LIRR freight operations. Today, trains from CSX, Providence & Wooster and Canadian Pacific interchange with the NYA.
Later that day, we traveled to the Bay Ridge section of the Brooklyn Waterfront, to look at operations of the former East Brooklyn District Terminal and current Cross Harbor operations. We were amazed at the history to be found in the area. Chapter friend Doug Diamond, lead us on our informative tour of Brooklyn. The trip was another Chapter success and was really enjoyed by all those who attended. |

Scranton PA. Trip
The Twin Forks Chapter has been to some very interesting places and Steam Town in Scranton PA, is no exception. Not only did we visit the Steam Town site, we also visited the entire museum complex. Our group was given a guided tour of the museum and the Shop areas. We also rode the excursion train behind ex Canadian National #3554 from Scranton to Moscow and back again.
But thats not all. We also visited the Lackawanna Coal Mine also located in Scranton, PA. We were given a great underground tour and a rode in an authentic coal miners train deep under ground, where the black diamonds were king of the Scranton area.
As you can see, our trips are fun, educational, adventurous and all ages enjoy the trips.
