Coming events

Twin Forks has a full calendar of events throughout the year. In addition to our projects we participate in many train and railroad related shows, go on many trips, and hold frequent work sessions on our equipment, as a restoration project is "never" done!
Listed below are a few of the many events where you can find Twin Forks in the near future.

2008 summer Excursion

The Twin Forks chapter cordially invites you to join us on:
Saturday, July 12th 2008 Sold Out! See below for more info on an encore.
For a cruise around New York Harbor on the historic Lehigh Valley Railroad Tugboat "Cornell".
NOTE:July 12th Trip has sold out!! However, We decided to run an encore one week later, on July 19th for those still interested. It also is filling quick so act fast!! Sold out!

We are doing one more trip on Saturday, July 26th for those still interested. We advise you get payment in ASAP so you get a spot!

During this trip we will be visiting many historic Rail-Marine sites dotted around the harbor not normally seen from land. Sites include but ar not limited to the following:
-Railroad owned Ferry Terminals.
-Active carfloat sites used by NYNJ Rail in Jersey City and Brooklyn.
-Abandoned Terminals such as Brooklyn Eastern District Terminals Kent Ave. and Pigeon Street yards.
-New York Dock Railways Fulton Terminal
-Restored LIRR carfloat floatbridges in Long Island City; And more!

The Cornell is one of the few remaining railroad owned tugboats still around today. Built right in Oyster Bay, the Cornell is like a floating locomotive powered by a Diesel-Electric drive. Powering this is a massive Cleveland 16-278A engine. The Cornell was one of 2 boats owned by the Lehigh Valley with lower pilot houses so they can transverse the Harlem River without the need for any of the bridges to open. We invite you to come join us on this one in a lifetime opportunity to ride with us and see all the sights, sounds and smells of a working tugboat from the engine room to the pilot house!

On board we will be seeing not just Rail-Marine related sites but also other things as well. These include such places like the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, working vessel thoughout the harbor and much more. All from the vantage point of a Tugboat!

Trip costs will be: $60 for Twin Forks mebers and $65 for non members. We will be departing from the west side of Manhattan. Final pier boarding location will be set at a later date.
