About Us

The Twin Forks Chapter of the NRHS was granted chapter status by the National Railway Historical Society in 1996. Our membership has grown to over 50 individuals from many different age groups, states, and professional backgrounds. We at Twin Forks want to build upon that success and look forward to growing the chapter membership.

Membership meetings are held every other month (visit our coming events page for dates and times). At these meetings, chapter business is discussed followed by a educational presentation from one of our members. We also publish an informative newsletter every other month called The Railway Post Office.

The Twin Forks Chapter NRHS sponsors rail fan trips in and around New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Within New York, we've been to the Delaware & Ulster Railroad, the New York and Atlantic yard at Freshpond and the Brooklyn waterfront. Outside of New York, we've traveled to the Wilmington and Western RR in Wilmington, Delaware, Steamtown in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and SONO Tower/Danbury Museum in Connecticut.

We currently own nine pieces of railway equipment. Our collection includes two Long Island N22B cabooses, one N22A caboose, A Jordan Spreader, a B&M Osgood Bradley car, two ex Missouri Pacific Sedalia built cabooses, a ex Pittsburgh and Lake Erie 50 Ft Boxcar and a Canadian National Fairmont speeder. As finances and time permits we plan to restore our equipment for future generations to be better able to appreciate Long Islands railroad history. Be sure to check out the "Our Collection" page for photos and further descriptions. In addition, the chapter also works to assist other organizations on their restoration efforts. Take a look at our photo gallery page to learn more!

Chapter sponsored trips are exciting and educational. The newsletter keeps the membership abreast of chapter and railroad happenings, and most importantly the membership dues are minimal. There’s no time like the present to preserve our past for future generations to enjoy.

The Chapter May also be selling merchandise at area shows and events, such as The Greenberg Shows in New Jersey, The Freeport, LI Annual Winter Model Train Show and the Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show. For a list of where we'll be, go to our Coming Events page.
