On Long Island, we're not given the luxuries of most other railroads or rail preservation groups. Our time, focus, and budget, are limited to ourselves, and the amount of effort we put into it on our own time. There have always been problems through the small and niche timeline of LIRR Historical Preservation, but despite these shortcomings, a lot has actually been accomplished. Throughout the last months, members of the Twin Forks Chapter of the NRHS, along with members from other LI Preservation Groups have been putting together a list. This list is subject to change, but as of January 2026 we believe is the most comprehensive list of Preserved Railroad Equipment on Long Island. A second list is also being written to track down any LIRR Equipment that is off-Long Island. May we present to you: The Golden List.
